Current Weapon: Tang Bong

Current Weapon: Tang Bong

The current training weapon for February, March, April and May is Tang Bong, the short stick, also referred to as an Escrima.

The ideal length for our style is the length of your arm, measured from the second knuckle of your longest finger to your shoulder. When first starting, you can use a simple dowel, cut down to the right length. The diameter of the weapon should allow you to be able to practice finger rolls with some comfort. Children usually want to stay around a .5 inch, adults can go 3/4 to a full inch or larger in diameter.

Here is the order of patterns to learn:

  • Basics
  • Walking pattern 1
  • Double walking pattern 1
  • Walking pattern 2

Tang bongs are also available for order from Mr. Gaul.

If this is your first time training with this weapon, we recommend starting with a padded version. If you have experience with this weapon on our last training cycle, and you are feeling confident, then it may be time to upgrade to a wooden or rattan version. Both styles are in stock and you can purchase at the front desk.
